What Tools Will Use When Cleaning Your Teeth?

In order to maintain our oral hygiene and prevent oral diseases, doctors recommend that we should clean our teeth once or twice a year. So do you know the process of cleaning your teeth? Do you know what tools to use when cleaning your teeth?

First, let's talk about the process of cleaning teeth.

Disinfection

Usually before start it, the doctor will ask the patient to rinse their mouth with an antiseptic solution. This process effectively reduces the amount of bacteria in the saliva, thereby minimizing contamination.

Scaling (dental ultrasonic scaler)

Doctors perform scaling by hand or ultrasound according to the specific condition of the patient.

The process of teeth cleaning is usually a bit sore. If the inflammation of the gums is serious, the teeth will bleed during the cleaning. In fact, the amount of bleeding is often a reflection of the degree of inflammation. This situation is similar to the bleeding when brushing teeth. You cannot stop brushing or cleaning your teeth because of bleeding. On the contrary, only serious brushing and scaling can eliminate inflammation, and bleeding will be reduced or disappeared after inflammation is controlled or eliminated.

Sandblasting (dental air polisher + dental cleaning powder)

This is to further clean the teeth with special salt and high-pressure water, and the effect of removing pigment is more obvious. For patients with mild pigmentation on the teeth, sandblasting may not be required, as long as one ultrasonic cleaning is sufficient.

Polishing (dental contra angle + dental prophy cup/dental prophy brush)

Polishing after cleaning is like waxing after washing your car. Microscopically visible scratches will be left on the tooth surface after ultrasonic cleaning, resulting in fine and rough tooth surface, which will easily collect stains and calculus. Polishing can make the teeth brighter and the teeth surface smoother, thereby slowing down the adhesion of plaque and pigment and the formation of calculus. In addition, polishing can also reduce tooth sensitivity after scaling.

So what tools are used in the teeth cleaning process?

Dental ultrasonic scaler

Ultrasonic cleaning refers to the use of ultrasonic cleaning equipment to remove tartar, plaque, smoke scale, tea scale, etc. attached to the surface of the teeth, without hurting the gums and enamel. The effect is better and the efficiency is higher.

Ultrasonic cleaning can not only remove the plaque, calculus and tea stains on the surface of the teeth and make the teeth white, but also can effectively prevent the occurrence of oral diseases such as bad breath, root bleeding, periodontal diseases, and dental caries.

Dental air polisher

It is dental cleaning equipment, also called sandblasting gun.. It mainly uses special sandblasting powder (with sodium bicarbonate powder as the main component), and sprays it on the tooth surface to remove plaque and pigment. This method is suitable for cleaning dental plaque and pigment spots in the interdental spaces that are not easily accessible by dental ultrasonic scaler. The cleaning efficiency of tooth surface pigments is also much higher than that of dental ultrasonic scaler.

Dental cleaning powder

The ultrasonic wave of teeth cleaning can only vibrate the large calculus in the mouth, while sandblasting can clean the tea scale, smoke scale and food soft scale attached to the teeth. The sandblasted teeth are very smooth and not easy to deposit calculus again. So scaling and sandblasting should be combined.

Dental cleaning powder is available in a variety of flavors: lemon, strawberry, mint, and more.

In addition, scaler-related accessories will be used: dental scaler handpiece, dental scaling tips, automatic water supply systems, etc.
