Introduction For Dental Implant System
Published on  Updated on

Dental implant system usually consists of the main unit, the motor, the dental handpiece, the water pump and the foot pedal.

1. Main unit

In all the electric dental implant machines, speed control, cooling water pump, function adjustment and status display are all located on the main unit. The main unit is powered by a standard circuit (110V or 220V AC) and provides energy to the motor.

2. Motor and dental handpiece

The motor is connected to the main unit via a connecting line and is powered by the latter. The highest speeds commonly used are 20,000 rpm, 30,000 rpm and 40,000 rpm. In the clinical situation, it is necessary to equip dental handpiece with different reduction ratios according to the speed and torque requirements. For surgical operations such as osteotomy, it is easier to operate at higher rotational speeds, and because of the high rotational speed, it is not necessary to require too much torque. At this time, a 1:1 undecelerated dental handpiece is applied. A dental handpiece that can reduce the speed of a motor is called a speed-decreasing dental handpiece. Generally speaking, while the dental handpiece is decelerating, the torque is increased by the same ratio. The preparation of the implant nest requires low speed and high torque, so this type of dental handpiece is generally used. According to the effect of the deceleration, the handle of dental handpiece is engraved with the corresponding logo. For example, the 20:1 dental handpiece indicates that it can reduce the motor speed by 20 times.

The dental handpiece that usually increases the maximum speed of the motor is called a speed-increasing dental handpiece. Since the increase of the speed is proportional to the decrease of the power, it is generally not necessary to increase the speed of the dental handpiece when implanting the implant in the bone.

3. Water pump

In dental implant surgery, it is required to generate no heat as much as possible to avoid thermal burns on bone tissue. Therefore, most of the dental implant machines on the market in recent years are equipped with pumps to ensure that the entire bone drilling process is carried out under sufficient flow cooling. The water pump is powered by a separate motor. The pump is powered by a separate motor. Some machines can change the amount of water injected by adjusting the speed of the motor, but in our application, it is felt that a pump with a constant speed can meet the clinical needs. When purchasing, it is necessary to pay attention to the detection of the power of the motor. Due to the frequent interruptions in clinical operation, the motor is required to be started simultaneously with the bone drill during each intermittent restart to ensure sufficient water cooling when drilling the bone.

4. Foot pedal

Foot pedal has now become the basic configuration of dental implant machine. There are two types, one is only the switch function, and the other is the varistor adjustment function, which can control the motor speed according to the strength of the foot.
